Cracking Croft

Sunday saw us back at Croft for round 4 of the 2017 series with many regulars making the trip up north along with a good mix of new entrants as well. The circuit held some surprises for the drivers with one in the gravel on the first corner of the first run and later on in the day almost making it into the field at Tower trying to find those missing few tenths of a second.

Stuart Drewell (a regular trackdayer of ours) dipped his toe into the sprint waters in the Ariel Atom for the first time and was pretty much untouchable throught the day leading to a debut win. Jeff Wiltshire in the Sylva Phoenix pushed him hard until the last two runs until a mechanical issue meant an early finish but he'd already done enough on his first visit to Croft to secure second place. Tim Bedford in the Subaru Impreza tried his hardest to get ahead of Jeff for those all important championship points but just couldn't match the pace of the front two and narrowly held off newcomer Jake Simpson for third overall. Further down the field we had the usual close battles for class positions with many being decided by less than a tenth and in some cases a couple of hundreths, which considering the different vehicles involved and the length of the track it's always impressive how close it can get.

Round 5 takes place at Blyton Park on Sunday the 23rd of July on the Eastern circuit in about 4 weeks time. If you're looking for something to do in the meantime we're back at Kendrew Barracks for Round 3 of the Toyota & Mazda Sprint Series on the 9th of July so you can join in the Toyota series as part of Class X if you've not got one of those makes. www.toyotasprint.com & www.mazdasprint.com
